Kid Dentistry

Your Kiddo's First Dental Visit

At Bowker Creek Dental Clinic, we think your kids first dentist visit is very important. It should happen when they're under one year old or when they've had their first tooth for six months. Starting early helps make sure they have good dental habits and aren't scared of the dentist.

Before the First Visit

Before your kids first dentist visit, talk to them about what will happen. This can help them feel less nervous. Bring their medical records too, so we can give them the best care.

What Happens on the First Visit

During their first visit, we want to help your kiddo feel good about going to the dentist. It usually takes about 30 minutes, and we'll:

  • Look carefully at their mouth, teeth, and gums.

  • Gently clean their teeth to remove dirt and stains.

  • Take X-rays if needed to see their teeth better.

  • Check if they need extra fluoride to make their teeth stronger.

  • Show you how to take care of their teeth at home.

Taking Care of Teeth at Home

Until your kiddo can brush and floss on their own, here are some tips:

  • Use a damp cloth to clean their gums after they eat.

  • Start using a soft toothbrush when their first tooth comes in.

  • Don't give them sugary drinks at bedtime.

  • Watch out for habits like thumb-sucking or teeth grinding.

Protecting Their Teeth with Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are like shields for your kids back teeth. These teeth have small spots where food and germs can hide, making them prone to cavities. We mostly place sealants on adult teeth.

How Sealants Help

Sealants cover these spots and stop germs from making cavities. This makes it easier for your kid to keep their teeth clean.

Getting Sealants

  • We'll clean and dry their teeth.

  • Then, we'll put the sealant on, and it will harden.

  • The sealant keeps their teeth safe from cavities.

When We Might Refer You

We're great at helping with most kids' dental needs, but sometimes we need to send them to a special dentist. This could happen if:

  • They have really tough dental problems.

  • They need special care for how they behave or develop.

  • They have unique health conditions.

Don't worry; your kid's health and teeth are always our top concerns. If we recommend a special dentist, we'll work closely with them to make it easy for you and your kid. Bowker Creek Dental Clinic is here to help your kid have a lifetime of healthy smiles!
